On 1 March 2021, the Government announced its intention to review and enhance the Aged Care Quality Standards (the Quality Standards) in response to a recommendation made by the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety. To inform this review, the Department of Health (the department) has engaged KPMG to undertake an evaluation of the current Quality Standards.

As part of this, KPMG is engaging with stakeholders from across the aged care sector in focus groups to understand how the Quality Standards have been implemented, their impacts on consumers and aged care providers and opportunities for refinement and improvement. It is expected that different stakeholders will have different roles and perspectives regarding the implementation and success of the Quality Standards.
