Safe Strong Elders workshop a success

'Speak Up & Speak Out' was the third in a series of Safe Strong Elders and part of a project to raise awareness of elder abuse, improve wellbeing, and increase service accessibility for First Nations Elders.

 Over 60 community members and local services attended the workshop, facilitated by Aunty Janet Turpie-Johnstone. ECLC's Jill Exon presented findings of the OPERA (Older People Equity Respect & Ageing) consultation and report, which set the scene for focus group discussions. Topics included ageism, improving wellbeing (within the context of colonial invasion), building new partnerships, addressing elder abuse, and increasing access to services. All the Elder-led, insightful, and robust conversation was recorded and will help to inform the next steps of the project.
