People born with variations in sex characteristics in Australia have increasingly raised concerns with the Australian Human Rights Commission (the Commission), the Australian Government and the United Nations, about human rights violations in relation to medical interventions conducted without the full and informed consent of the person involved.

This report provides recommendations for how Australia should protect and promote the human rights of people born with variations in sex characteristics in the context of medical interventions to modify these characteristics.
