Training eModule: Recognising, Responding and Reporting of Abuse of the Older Person – For direct care workers

This training e-module tool is designed to enable direct care workers and service providers across Australia, to responsibly care for older people, to recognise signs of abuse and to respond in a timely and effective way.

On completing this course, you will be able to:

  • identify signs and behaviours of suspected or alleged abuse

  • understand the difference between witnessed, suspected and disclosed abuse

  • demonstrate knowledge of duty of care.

  • demonstrate knowledge of privacy, confidentiality and disclosure

  • understand reporting requirements and pathways.

  • demonstrate knowledge of different interpretations of abuse and the importance of recognising different value systems

  • understand barriers that older people may face to access safety

  • recognise the unique role of older people within Aboriginal culture

  • record concerns and actions taken according to organisational requirements

  • demonstrate documentation requirements
