Elder Rights Advocacy

Free, confidential and independent aged care advocacy and information for older people living in Victoria, their families and representatives. Service includes a specialist advocate for elder abuse prevention and response.

Elder Rights Advocacy provides information and direct advocacy support to older people receiving or eligible for Commonwealth-funded aged care services.

Elder Rights Advocacy also delivers the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) in all areas across Victoria. ACVVS links volunteer visitors with older people who are experiencing social isolation and loneliness

Our services are free, confidential and independent of government and service providers and include:

  •  an information and intake line 1800 700 600 

  • assistance with registering and accessing aged care services

  • professional advocacy and one-on-one support to ensure that older people receive aged care services which meet their needs 

  • information, referral and education to support awareness and prevention of elder abuse. We can help with: Concerns about potential elder abuse while receiving an aged care service AND Concerns about potential elder abuse in the community ( e.g. financial control, social abuse, physical or psychological abuse).

  • Social support for isolated older people across Victoria through the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS).

The ACVVS is a free service which matches volunteers with socially isolated people living in an aged care home, living in their own home and receiving services through a home care package or are on the waiting list for one - The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) is an initiative of the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care.

ERA’s professional advocates provide education and information sessions on various aged care-related topics. These include aged care rights for both staff and aged care recipients, balancing rights and risk, and responding to elder abuse.
