Seniors Rights Victoria

Seniors Rights Victoria operates a state-wide elder abuse helpline, with information, support, advice, advocacy, education to prevent and address elder abuse. They also provide legal information, advice and casework.

Seniors Rights Victoria was established in 2008. It is a program of the Council of the Ageing (COTA) Victoria and is governed by its Board. Victoria Legal Aid and the Department of Health and Human Services provide the main funding. Seniors Rights Victoria works closely with other organisations in the elder abuse sector, ensuring referrals pathways are clear and smooth.

Seniors Rights Victoria (SRV) is a specialist Community Legal Centre and is a member of the Victorian Federation of Community Legal Centres and the national association, Community Legal Centres Australia.

Seniors Rights Victoria advances the rights of older people and works to prevent elder abuse.

  • We have many resources available to empower people to help themselves.

  • We advocate for policy changes and law reform.

  • We offer Community Education and Professional Education.

We also provide free information and referrals, legal advice and legal casework on matters specifically related to elder abuse, to any Victorian aged 60 and above, or to any Indigenous Victorian aged 45 and above.

Special Notice

As of 1 July 2023, we have limited resources to maintain previous service delivery levels; this likely means we will not be able to directly respond to calls in the first instance.

We invite callers to leave a voice message when prompted, and kindly ask that only one message is left when doing so. Duplicate messages will lead to delays in our response.

The usual time for calls to be responded to is one week.

We thank you for your patience and will answer enquiries as quickly as we are able. We will continue to prioritise older Victorians at risk of, or experiencing, elder abuse.

If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, call 000.

For non-urgent matters you can visit our resources page, to help you navigate planning ahead, financial planning, family agreements, difficult situations if they arise and much more. We also have prepared resources in 25 additional languages that may be of assistance.
