Carers’ peak body calls for change at QLD elder abuse enquiry

Carers Queensland’s submission to the Parliamentary Inquiry into Elder Abuse in Queensland focusses on three key recommendations.

These three recommendations are:

  1. removing harmful stereotypes about carers

  2. highlighting the emotional and physical abuse that older carers may experience from an adult child or spouse they are caring for

  3. funding research to understand the risk of abuse to older carers and how to support them.

The submission raises issues that had not previously been considered in the context of elder abuse.

This opportunity amplified the voice of carers and ensured that their experiences and challenges were heard at the highest levels of government.
