Compass poll indicates elder abuse touches the lives of many

A recent poll of 300 attendees during the Recognising Elder Abuse webinar revealed some startling results.

In a recent Compass webinar on Recognising Elder Abuse attendees were asked several questions about the abuse and neglect of older people. 

42% of attendees indicated that elder abuse had affected their lives
42% of attendees indicated that they had been touched by elder abuse, either personally or to the life of a friend or family member.

97% believe elder abuse is not understood
97% of respondents believed that elder abuse was not widely understood.

94% of respondents said that not enough was being done to address elder abuse
94% of respondents felt that not enough was being done to address elder abuse in the community

Moderator, Philippa McDonald, called the results of this poll a ‘red flag’ and that the message was clear, ‘we all want more information and more resources’.
