Elder Rights pilot project begins

A new project will explore how elder rights and elder abuse are understood in CaLD communities in WA.

Published: 11 April 2024

The project, conducted by Umbrella Community Care and Legal Aid WA, is exploring community perceptions and levels of awareness of elder rights and elder abuse to inform the development of culturally appropriate messaging and materials.

We are exploring the use of language regarding elder rights and abuse within marginalised groups, with a specific focus on seniors and their families from culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) backgrounds.

The goal is to help facilitate the development of targeted community legal education resources that reduce stigma and improve access to support for CaLD seniors facing rights violations and abuse.

We are proud to be partnering with Legal Aid WA to deliver this pilot project from February to November 2024, with funding from the Department of Communities.
