IHACPA is an independent government agency that promotes efficiency and transparency in the delivery and funding of public health and aged care services across Australia.
It provides evidence-based pricing and costing advice to support sustainable, high-quality care for all Australians.
IHACPA has committed to
engaging in meaningful partnerships
incorporating diverse perspectives, and
evolving methodologies
to ensure greater equity, particularly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.
The CAC is a statutory committee established under section 176 of the National Health Reform Act 2011. CAC members are appointed by the Commonwealth Minister for Health and Ageing and are drawn from a range of clinical specialities and backgrounds to ensure the CAC represents a wide range of clinical expertise.
The CAC is seeking the involvement of Indigenous clinician(s) with experience in delivering care through the public hospital system (not strictly from any specific discipline), particularly those who might provide perspectives on the implications of our hospital pricing work for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health.
In terms of the type of hospital pricing work that would apply, as an example, IHACPA has implemented an adjustment for Indigenous patients in public hospitals since 2012-13, which is intended to account for legitimate and unavoidable cost variations in the delivery of public hospital services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients.
We seek a nomination from a clinician who might provide views on the appropriateness and impact, noting our costing and pricing methodologies are consistently reviewed to keep pace with changes in the care economy.
Nominations (including CV) are due by 14 November 2025.
Please submit your nomination to Flairy Caragay, Executive Officer at flairy.caragay@ihacpa.gov.au
Please note: as with all government committees, IHACPA will need to go through legislative consultation processes, including consultation with our Board and Health Ministers for approval.
We anticipate the timing of appointment by the Commonwealth Minister for Health and Ageing to be early 2026.
