Mandatory testing of older drivers would be 'ageist': Council on the Ageing

The tragic death of two pedestrians by a 91-year-old driver in Wantirna South has sparked calls for Victoria to re-test drivers over the age of 75.

Compared to other states, Victoria's rules for older drivers are modest, but advocates for older Australians say mandatory driving and medical checks are 'ageist.'

"We think any sort of mandatory retesting process should be based on ability rather than age," said the chief executive of COTA Ben Rogers.
