Elder Abuse Action Australia (EAAA) has welcomed the release of the Australian Government’s second National Plan to End the Abuse and Mistreatment of Older People 2026-2036, describing it as an important step in continuing and strengthening Australia’s national response to the abuse of older people.
EAAA has been a strong advocate for continued national action to address the abuse and mistreatment of older people and has worked with governments and sector partners to strengthen Australia’s response.
Co-Chairs Sue Leitch and Rebecca Edwards stated that:
“The abuse of older people is a significant and complex issue that requires a coordinated national response. EAAA welcomes the release of the new National Plan, which builds on previous national efforts to address the abuse and mistreatment of older people.
Elder Abuse Action Australia will review the plan in detail and looks forward to working with governments, services and communities to ensure it delivers meaningful outcomes for older people across Australia.”
EAAA will provide further comment once it has had the opportunity to review the plan and its implementation arrangements.
