No payment for seniors escaping abuse by family or carers

The federal government says it has no plans to allow more people escaping domestic violence to access an emergency payment of $5,000 despite calls from the sector to do so.

The payment is only for those escaping a partner, not another violent person like a parent or carer.

Advocates are calling for widening of eligibility to ensure the most vulnerable are protected.
