Super funds want death benefits going to domestic abusers to stop

Current laws mean superannuation funds sometimes have no alternative but to pay out a member's death benefits and insurance to someone who abused them.

Families of domestic violence victims and super funds have called for urgent law reforms to prevent perpetrators of abuse from receiving these funds.

Both major parties have committed to law reforms giving super trustees the ability to deny payments to domestic abusers, but they are yet to go before parliament.
