TAFE course in aged care helps older workers retrain

Michael Asims and Allan White are among the older Australians who have retrained to stay in the workforce and still find meaning in their roles.

They have found fulfilment in the aged care sector after exhaustion or alleged ageism ruled them out of their previous industries.

"Each day is different. I'm working one-on-one with older individuals, and I think to myself 'I should have done this earlier'," Mr Asims said.

ABS data for February 2025 showed 5,574,300 people aged 45 and over had a job, 736,000 of which were aged 65 and over.
