Age, Assumptions and Access at Work

Age continues to shape working lives, influencing who is hired, supported, and valued. Assumptions about being “too early” or “past prime” affect career opportunities and participation over time.

A new report to be released by DCA and the Australian Human Rights Commission, based on the 2025–2026 Inclusion@Work Index, highlights how age impacts workplace inclusion. Findings from the report explore how age:

  • shapes discrimination and harassment experiences

  • impacts access to career development opportunities

  • intersects with other diversity dimensions.
