La Trobe University and the Australian Association of Gerontology are thrilled to present visiting Associate Professor Rodrigo Serrat from the Department of Cognition, Development and Educational Psychology at the University of Barcelona, Spain.

Rodrigo's research focuses on civic engagement in later life, with particular attention to diversity and inclusion across different contexts, including local and state policymaking, volunteering and political organisations, seniors’ interest groups, and aged care settings.

This webinar will explore the impact of micro-, meso-, and macro-level factors on multidimensional civic engagement - including volunteering and political participation - among older people.

A/Prof Serrat will draw on his role as lead investigator for the four-country European CIVEX study (https://web.ub.edu/en/web/projecte-recerca-civex/). CIVEX aims to investigate the exclusion of diverse older people from civic engagement and older adults’ experiences of exclusion, and to identify evidence-based policy responses to address exclusion from civic activities.

CIVEX includes research teams from four European countries selected to represent Continental (Belgium), Southern (Spain), and Nordic (Finland and Sweden) welfare state regimes and cultural contexts.
