An umbrella term that refers to a collection of symptoms caused by disorders that affect the brain. It can affect a person’s cognitive abilities, such as their thinking, memories, problem-solving, language use and behaviour. Alzheimer’s disease is one form of dementia, but there are others, including Lewy body disease, frontotemporal dementia and vascular dementia.
