New ageing resource - KeepAble

According to research, the key to ageing well and living a good quality of life for longer is to compress functional decline by living more healthy years rather than just living longer. This can be achieved by:

  • moving regularly – through everyday activities and exercise
  • staying socially connected
  • maintaining a balanced diet, and
  • having a sense of purpose.

KeepAble aims to do what the name suggests. We’re dedicated to finding and sharing evidence-based research, resources and real-life stories about ageing well, so older people can live well for longer.

People in Canberra with a disability are 'trapped' in their housing, but new rules could change that

Changes to the National Construction Code are being considered by state and federal ministers next week.

Advocates say the current voluntary guidelines have failed to provide adequate housing for people with disabilities.

The reforms could require new homes to be built with wider doors, no entry steps and ground floor bathrooms.

LGBTQIA65+ Equality at Every Age Webinar

Julie McCrossin AM moderates a diverse panel of members from the Rainbow community as they explore the particular characteristics and vulnerabilities of older LGBTQIA+ people and talk about real life examples of elder abuse in their community and how they are planning to stay happy and healthy as they age.

Sponsored by Elder Abuse Action Australia (EAAA) and LGBTIQ+ Health Australia, this webinar seeks to explore the impact of elder abuse within the LGBTQIA+ communities and to also promote sources of information, resources and service providers that are accessible and friendly to the LGBTQIA+ community.

Join the discussion and ask our panel members to share the steps they are taking personally to protect themselves from abuse as they age and to offer hope, while raising awareness about the importance of self-protection as individuals and as a community.
