A Tasmanian woman cut off from seeing her grandchildren says while she misses them, she has given up trying because "there's nothing I can do".

Judy* told The Senior she is not sure why their mother, who was previously in a relationship with her son, has cut her off, except that "she doesn't like me".

"I don't know what being a grandmother is. I've lost all that," she said.

"There's things you'll see and want to buy that for them. But I'm over doing that, because I don't see them."
