Four decades, 33,000 calls: Lifeline hero's tips on beating loneliness

Tina Baldwin has sat with Australians in their "darkest moments" and answered more than 33,000 calls for help over four decades of volunteering.

"I remember taking my first call and wondering what it was all going to be about," she told The Senior.

Graham Mabury who she said is "really the hero of this whole story" had a radio program 'Nightline' encouraging people to call in to chat.

Ms Baldwin came along with her now late husband Daniel to answer calls off-air, and has not looked back in 41 years.
