Consumers of Mental Health WA
CoMHWA is the independent, state-wide, peak body for people with lived/living experience of mental health challenges.
CoMHWA provides strong advocacy and leads change with, and for, consumers of mental health services.
We were incorporated in 2005 by a group of committed and passionate people with lived experience of mental health issues who came together with a shared vision.
CoMHWA recognises that a consumer-led organisation is essential to achieving a strong, assertive, independent voice for social change that reflects the needs and priorities of those with mental health issues. We believe that:
- consumers of mental health services should experience respect, dignity, and full human rights
- Western Australians should be aware, informed and educated about consumer rights and wellbeing
- there should be strong peer support and peer workforce
- recovery and wellbeing must be actively promoted with, and for, consumers
